WHAT
IS WIRELESS CREDIT CARD PROCESSING?
Wireless
credit card processing is a full transaction system with advantages that standard
phone line based processing systems can't touch. For example:
Speed: 3-5 second authorizations. Compared to 12-18 seconds typical of traditional dial-up methods. Great for merchants who have customers standing in line during a "crunch time".
(ie: delicatessens bars, movie theaters, grocery stores, etc.)No dedicated phone line: Because payments are authorized using a wireless connection, merchants no longer need to pay a monthly fee for a land phone line dedicated to their payment terminals. This means an average savings of $35.00 per month or more. Can also free up or relieve an existing phone line if merchant is sharing a dedicated phone line with other devices such as a fax machine or computer modem.
Mobility: Allows your customer to authorize electronic payments at your business, in your vehicle, at your customer's location or anywhere else your business takes you. (ie: delivery services, taxicabs, limos, mobile merchants, kiosk vendors, trade show exhibitions and parking garages)
HOW
DOES IT WORK?
A third
piece of hardware, the wireless modem, is integrated into the terminal allowing
the system to uplink and downlink data received via the cellular digital packet
data (CDPD) network.
WHAT
IS CDPD?
CDPD is
a high speed packet data network operating in parallel with the existing cellular
voice network. Upon card swipe, the encrypted transaction data is sent over
the CDPD network to the credit card processor, which authorizes the transaction
and sends back an approval code to the terminal which generates a two-part
customer receipt.
sssss
It is fast and inexpensive because CDPD-initiated transactions
bypass local phone line services. There will also be no delays due to modem
handshaking and network inefficiencies associated with traditional dial-up
transactions. The high monthly cost of a dial tone is also eliminated resulting
in fast and inexpensive credit and debit card transactions virtually anywhere.
